In Indonesia, sexual violence is a taboo issue. But in a border city like Batam, cases of sex trafficking and sexual assault are some of the most numerous in the country. For 20-year-old Ria Febriyanti, defying that taboo is what drives her work at an NGO that assists women victims—and her own recovery from a past incident of abuse. Today, she has found a supportive community with other youths in Batam who boldly speak out against sexual violence and trafficking. As Ria advocates for the rights of victims to report their cases and seek recovery, she continues on her own journey to heal.
