INTRO
The Basketball Africa League (BAL) Competition 2022 will tip off Saturday, March 5 in Dakar, Senegal.
Rwanda , the host of inaugural BAL season last year, will be represented by the Rwanda Energy Group REG Club. Jean Baptiste Micomyiza has more.

According to some residents of Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda, REG is a club with no big fanbase.

“I have no idea about REG, but anyway I wish them success.”

REG Club’s leadership says that some Rwandans might not know about the club because it was founded only 5 years ago.

“I wouldn't say they are no people that don't know about REG basketball because you know different people have different tastes when it comes to sports. But what I have to say is that, REG, as a club, as a basketball club, is increasingly getting many fans around Kigali and in the whole country over the last five years that we have been in existence, our fan base is increasing year after year.
In the five years we have won two National League trophies.”

12 teams competing in BAL 2022 season are divided into two conferences – the Sahara Conference and the Nile Conference.
How is REG prepared in order to beat its opponents? Francis Murindabigwi is the President of REG Basketball Club.

“We would like to perform better than the Patriots who represented Rwanda last year. They reached the semifinals, for us, we want to reach the finals. We have trained well and hopefully will be able to achieve that goal. “

The captain of REG Basketball Club, Elie Kaje also believes that they can do better than the club that Represented Rwanda last year.

“ Everything is in order in terms of preparations so that we can come up with better results compared to where the club which represented Rwanda reached last year.”

Mr Francis Murindabigwi, President of REG Men’s basketball club calls upon all Rwandans to support REG Basketball Club.

“Basketball sport is popular in Rwanda; we are calling upon all Rwandans not only our fans to support us on the course of this competition because we are representing Rwanda.
Those who will be able to come to Dakar they can come to help us because the fans’ support is very important to the players.”

REG will start the competition playing against the Morroco’s side Association Sportive SALE on 6th March 2022 in Dakar Senegal.
