[[The Ukrainian diaspora in America is taking steps to aid friends, family and countrymen back home who are under attack by Russia. From gathering medicine to raising money, groups have mobilized to help. Lesia Bakalets has the story, narrated by Anna Rice.]]

Several U.S. organizations, most of which were created after Russia’s 2014 incursion into Ukraine, have united and are coordinating work to help those who remain in their homeland.
Some in the Ukrainian diaspora are collecting medications to send back as Ukraine endures fierce attacks by Russian forces. Volunteers are helping hospitals in Ukraine; others have raised money to help.
Every evening the groups meet on Zoom to coordinate their work.

Irina Vashchuk is president of the Revived Soldiers Ukraine foundation that has raised about $95,000 to buy medications for field hospitals in Ukraine and maintain evacuation vehicles.

United Help Ukraine is focusing on creating tactical medical kits for Ukrainian soldiers.

“We have been sending tactical medi-kits to soldiers in Ukraine since 2014. They have to contain a certain medication that stops the blood and special bandages - Basically, medical supplies that people need during an armed conflict.”

Volunteers are also looking for medical professionals and instructors in Ukrainian cities – so they can teach others first aid and create video tutorials.

Volunteers say they are receiving unprecedented support from both Ukrainians and Americans. But in the face of a massive Russian military presence in Ukraine, their work has just begun.
