Clube Ferroviário da Beira was founded in 1924 in Mozambique's second largest city, the capital of Sofala province. After soccer, basketball is its second most important sport. The team is nicknamed "locomotives" of Chiveve because it is linked to the company “Ports and Railroad of Mozambique” which is the club's patron.
Ferroviário team played in the 2018–19 Africa Basketball League. In the fall of 2021, they played in the qualifiers of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) for the first time. On December 10, 2021, the team qualified for the 2022 BAL season after defeating Cape Town Tigers in the semi-finals.

Clube Ferroviário da Beira has participated every year in the Mozambican Basketball League, a competition it has already won three times - in the years 2012, 2013 and 2014, and vice-champion in 2009 and 2016.
These titles have been won as a result of the management's strong investment in its senior men's team.
For the project to qualify to BAL, the "locomotives" of Chiveve hired Spanish coach Luiz Lopez Hernandez, who put Ferroviário da Beira in the top of Mozambican basketball. It was with him the club became national champion in 2013 and 2014. And in December 2021, Hernandez, who started his coaching career thirty years ago in his homeland of Canary Islands, in Spain, drove the "locomotives" to qualify for BAL. He defines how his team will approach the race in March in Senegal.

To ensure a worthy presence in the final phase of the Basketball League, Ferroviário da Beira reinforced its squad with foreign players, two of which were present in the qualifying round held in South Africa. They are the Americans, William Perry, who plays the base, and the forward Jermel Michel Kennedy. It is waiting for two more foreigners who will reinforce the team.

Ferroviário da Beira will be the second Mozambican team to participate in the continental professional championship, the Basketball Africa League, after Ferroviário de Maputo, represented the country in the first edition of the competition reaching the second phase of the competition held in Kigali, Rwanda. It is an example that the "Locomotives" of Chiveve want to follow and even surpass.
