[[The Netherlands is investing more than 420 million dollars to build Swedish-designed combat vehicles for Ukraine. The Dutch expect to deliver the tanks by 2026, according to Defense News, to add to those already proving effective on the front lines. Anna Kosstutschenko has the story.]]

CV90 armored vehicles were deployed with Ukraine’s 21st Mechanized Brigade in the summer of 2023. The commander of this vehicle goes by the call sign Kipish [[pron. kee-peesh]]. He worked in construction in Poland before Russia invaded Ukraine. He says the need to protect his little daughter made him return home.

“When I saw online that the enemy started shelling us, I called my kid, the most precious person in my life. And she said, ‘Daddy, they are shooting at us!’”

CV90s are infantry vehicles designed to both transport troops and attack enemy tanks. (2)
In early June, the Netherlands agreed to spend more than 420 million dollars to build, quote, “several tens” of the Swedish-designed tanks for Ukraine, the Dutch defense minister told Defense News.
According to the battalion chief of the 21st Mechanized Brigade, who goes by the call sign Samurai, these Swedish vehicles are effective under heavy enemy fire from artillery and drones.

“It is maneuverable on the battlefield; another advantage is the armor, and the crew can confirm – when we are being shelled, the CV90 does not suffer much from artillery fragments or from FPV-drones.”
((NARRATION))
21-year-old Samurai, a graduate of the Odesa Military Academy, says the CV90 helps keep troops safe and comfortable while being moved from place to place.

“Six infantrymen can sit here, comfortably put down their battle kit and water, and drive to the unloading point to work on the task from there.”
((NARRATION))
This Swedish combat vehicle is equipped with a thermal imager, which allows the crew to operate freely even at night. Additionally, the vehicle remains hard to detect thanks to heat signature reducing technology.
