According to the WHO, there was a tenfold increase in the number of cases worldwide from 2000 to 2019. Esper Kallás heads Butantan Institute, a biomedical research center in Sao Paulo. It facilitates the reproduction and spread of mosquitoes, making them more effective transmitters of the disease."
