Toui: Sabaidee Caty!
Caty: Sabaidee Toui!
Toui: What kind of animals do you like, aside from cats and dogs?
Caty: I like pigs, cows and goats. How about you?
Toui: I love goats! I want to have a goat farm.
Caty: OK…why do you want a goat farm?
Toui: Goats are cute! Plus, I like to use goat milk to make cheese!
Caty: That’s a great idea. Today’s video is about the farm animal market in Kenya.
Toui: I’m interested! Let’s watch.

Early morning in this livestock market at the heart of Wajir town in Kenya’s north-east, Ibrahim Ahmed takes pastoralists through M-nomad, an online livestock marketplace.
He co-founded the site with Abdirahman Ahmed in 2019.
He says small, rural farmers now have a much easier way to buy and sell their livestock.

“We normally come to markets like this to register pastoralist and get their data, like number of animals and the prices, and then we connect them with livestock buyers who are mainly bulk buyers who want specific type of animal and cannot reach these markets.”
Ahmed says M-nomad has done livestock transactions for hundreds of clients from as far as Mogadishu in Somalia, by connecting buyers and sellers online.
Caty: It seems like a great way to sell and buy livestock.
Toui: But what is livestock, Caty?
Toui: How about livestock?
Caty: Livestock means animals that are kept on a farm such as cows, goats or chickens.
Toui: What about bulk?
Caty: That means being in large quantities or not divided into separate units.
Toui: Got it. How about one more: transaction.
Caty: Transact is a verb that means to carry out to completion, especially in business. Transaction is the noun form.
Toui: Thanks. Now let’s practice pronunciations.
Toui: That’s all for today. Thanks Caty!
Caty: You’re welcome!
