WELCOME /TRADITIONAL MEDICINE (PKG)
Hello and welcome to another episode of Healthy Living I’m Linord Moudou.
From Ayurveda in India to Traditional African or Chinese Medicine, and Native American healing practices in North America, traditional medicine continues to play a significant role in the global healthcare landscape. Also known as folk medicine, traditional medicine includes various forms of indigenous and complementary practices, deeply rooted in cultural traditions used for centuries to prevent, diagnose, and treat a wide range of physical and mental health conditions, according to the World Health Organization. Traditional medicine is often referred to as complementary and alternative medicine when adopted outside of its traditional culture.
The WHO Global Center for Traditional Medicine says about 88 percent of all countries use traditional medicine, such as herbal medicines, acupuncture, yoga, indigenous therapies, and others. Traditional Medicines or therapies are used extensively in Africa among other things, due to their accessibility and affordability. However, the practice is confronted with various challenges on the continent and beyond, including the need for better quality control and standardization of herbal medicines due to their potency and safety.
