Niger Junta Slams ECOWAS, Vows to Prosecute Bazoum
August 14, 2023
Col. Major Amadou Abdramane, a member of Niger’s military junta, Monday delivered a national address on state television where he said the transitional government vows to prosecute ousted president Mohamed Bazoum for “high treason” and “undermining” national security.
While reading out the junta statement, Abdramane added that Niger’s coup leaders denounce the “illegal, inhumane and humiliating sanctions” imposed by West Africa’s ECOWAS regional bloc that are depriving “the country of pharmaceutical products, basic foodstuffs and electricity supplies."
