  • Cameroon held the fifth session of The Follow-Up Committee for the Implementation of Recommendations of the Major National Dialogue on Friday in the Southwest regional capital of Buea. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute. The National Dialogue, held in 2019, made recommendations, including the creation of a special status for the two Anglophone regions, election of local governors, and integration of ex-combatants into society. Rev. Dr. Nditemeh Charlemagne, the Executive President of the Cameroon Baptist Convention and one of the speakers, tells VOA’s James Butty, while the separatist movement did not attend the meeting, the religious community of Cameroon has always appealed to the government and what he calls “non-state” armed groups to dialogue because unless that happens, Cameroon will never see long-lasting peace and unity.
