Kenyan President William Ruto vowed on Friday that next week’s planned protests against tax hikes will not be allowed. Earlier in the day, opposition leader Raila Odinga's party called for three more days of demonstrations starting next Wednesday.
Critics say the new tax hikes hurt Kenyans already struggling to afford basic commodities while the government asserts the new financial measures are needed to help with growing debt repayments and to fund job-creation initiatives.
