It’s been an embarrassing week for the White House since news broke that classified documents were found in November at a Washington think tank where President Joe Biden had worked after serving as vice president. And today … the White House announced that more documents had been found at the Biden residence in Delaware.
The Democratic president spoke Thursday, saying his lawyers had gone in search of the classified papers and turned them over.
U.S. law says that classified documents from presidencies go to the National Archives and not elsewhere.
Toui: Caty, is classified the same as secret?
Caty: Yes, it describes official government information that only certain people are permitted to view. There can be severe punishment for violators.
But, in casual conversation, you could refer to Saki’s list as “classified.”
Toui: (giggle) What is a think tank?
Caty: Normally we think of tank as a military vehicle, right? Or just a large heavy container.
Toui: Like a gas tank?
Caty: Right! In this case, it is an idiomatic term. It means an organization of researchers, thinkers and experts. A think tank reports and advises on certain subjects.
Toui: The story also mentions the National Archives? What is an archive?
Caty: An archive is a place where historical document, public records and other material is kept safe.
Toui: Saki needs an archive!
Caty: Yes…with a lock!
