Nora Taquinas is an indigenous Nasa leader striving to suppress the violence that pervades the indigenous reservation of Tacueyó in southwestern Colombia. Through an educational program, Taquinas works with students to make agricultural alternatives to illegal marijuana farming sustainable. Although the illicit industry is a major employer of local families, it also attracts violent armed groups to the area.
Nora is surrounded by youth who have worked in the marijuana fields to survive. Two of these workers are Yuliana Yatacue, her 20-year-old student, and Anyeli Garcés, her 23-year-old sister-in-law. Nora hopes to impart to the next generation the values and spiritual beliefs that will inspire and sustain the indigenous movement to defend the land and its people.
