Pushpa Khaitaram is the first girl in her family to reach high school. She received most of her support from her father, but his untimely death recently almost forced her to stop her education.
“My father wanted me to study. After his death, my uncle suggested I stop studying since I would be married one day and would not need any education for that. But I made sure they knew how much I wanted to learn and fulfill my father’s desire of me becoming a doctor. And once my teacher told my family how I am doing really well, my brother decided that I continue my education.”
Every day, Pushpa walks two kilometers to get to school where boys and girls learn together.
