Tariku Gankisi, an Ethiopian singer of Ari origin, goes back to his hometown of Jinka to sing at a festival celebrating ‘Dishta Gina’, the new year festivities. Tariku’s single of the same name was a huge hit when it was first released. However, during the height of the civil war in Ethiopia, Tariku was invited to perform at a concert in Addis Ababa to rally Ethiopian forces. He got up on the stage and preached peace instead. The documentary explores the backlash that followed and how things stand after a peace deal was struck a few months ago as Tariku prepares to go on the stage again.
