“And we will make America great again. Thank you very much. God bless you all.”

Last week, former President Donald Trump announced he was making another bid – his third – for the White House.

Just days later, the Biden administration’s attorney general named a special counsel to investigate whether Trump had a role in the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 and whether he held classified documents after he left office two weeks later.

“I am here today to announce the appointment of a special counsel in connection with two ongoing criminal investigations that have received significant public attention.”

The announcements come after the U.S. midterms results. Democrats surprised many by holding onto a slim majority in the Senate. The Republicans won control of the House of Representatives but by less than predicted.

Still, a split Congress means it will be harder for President Joe Biden, a Democrat, to pass legislation in the last two years of his term.

“I’m proud to announce that the era of one-party Democrat rule in Washington is over.”
((NARRATOR))
Some Republicans noted that candidates backed by Trump didn’t do as well as expected given Biden’s perceived weakness — since mid-summer, as inflation concerns grew, Biden approval rating has hovered under 40%. Some Republican leaders say they oppose Trump as their party’s presidential nominee.

“We probably lose the White House with Trump. If there is someone not named Trump, my guess is we win the White House.”

Over the weekend, after 15 million people voted in a snap poll, Twitter CEO Elon Musk reinstated Trump’s account. The site had banned Trump in 2021 after the rioting at the Capitol.

But for now, Trump, according to reports, says he is sticking with his social media platform Truth Social.
