Odesa is also home to Ukraine’s naval headquarters. A Russian Defense Ministry representative said Russian ships and aircraft fired upon oil processing facilities and fuel depots he claimed provided support to nearby Ukrainian troops. A Ukrainian official called it part of a quote “vile practice of destroying critical infrastructure.”

As Russia’s war on Ukraine wages into a sixth week, Ukrainian troops claim victories in pushing back Russian forces. But Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warns of
catastrophes for civilians living among abandoned mines, equipment, and bodies in the street, which Ukrainian soldiers in the Kyiv suburb of Bucha ((BOO-tchah)) pull with cables fearing booby traps.
